Sophus enjoying a pepper

If Memory Serves....

Think you can cook? Prove it! We're proposing an Iron Chef: Dryden contest this year. Winning team takes the title. We'll try and film the whole thing and produce a Iron Chef-like video for people to enjoy.

The following are a draft of rules. The day of the contest hasn't been determined. Please comment/make suggestions at the end of the page.

***This isn't a definite activity. Just a proposal.***

Rules:

  • There will be two teams.
    • Each team will be made up of:
      • Two cooks
      • Two sous chefs
      • At least one kitchen daemon to assist with clean up.
  • Teams will have (an undecided amount of time. Two to three hours seems reasonable. Please comment-STH) to cook and improvise a multicourse meal around a 'secret' theme ingredient that must be present in each dish.
    • The 'secret' ingredient will be disclosed to the teams the morning of the contest so that they have time to plan dishes and buy ingredients they would like to work with.
    • At the same time the ingredient is disclosed, the teams will flip a coin to see which team will use the kitchen in the house, and which team will use the RV's kitchen.(What about handicapping the team that gets the house kitchen to the same number of burners as the RV kitchen?[JCF])
      • The team which gets the RV kitchen will also be given the option of using the bread oven, assuming it is still functional at the time of the contest.
  • Kelly and Sean T. will not be on either team, but they will be assisting both teams in that they will answer questions as to where spices, equipment and basic ingredients are. Sean will also make sure the bread oven is to temp.
  • Teams are not making meals to feed everyone; they only need to make meals for three judges, plus Chairman Kaga (Sophus Alexander). The rest of the party will eat pizza or something.
    • The meals must be complete meals consisting of at least three to four dishes, including dessert.
  • Teams are encouraged to come up with a backstory for their Iron Chef team.

Misc:

  • Wanted: Tasters. Kelly and Sean T. will have the final say on who the tasters are. Ideally, they will fill the following roles:
    • A Fortune Teller
    • A Politician
    • An Actress
    • Chairman Kaga is Sophus Alexander
  • Wanted: People to film and interview the cooks. At least two.
