The Quarkeon Corridor

The year is 2859 and the pan-galactic intertubes are abuzz with the news of unharvested uranium out on the edge planet Quarkeon, and you've decided to pack up your family and blast across the solar system in hopes of becoming the next energy barons! In the Quarkeon Corridor you must lead your family through a variety of difficult situations to arrive at Quarkeon to harvest the sweet, sweet uranium ore. How will you get past the asteriod belts? Space sickness? Lack of astronaut ice cream? Can you survive?

In this extended unTED we'll learn the basics of iPhone development by crafting the game Quarkeon Express. You'll need an intel Mac with XCode 4 (you can get it from the app store for $5) and some programming skill (ideally in a C-like language). All other materials will be provided for you. I'll do a lecture for an hour or so then help everyone develop their version of the game.

Ideally this will take place early in the party so people can work on the game throughout the weekend.

Ideas

If there are to be ships flying around, some thoughts:

  • Ships need to be a certain distance from a planet to scan it for uranium.
  • Planets can have satnets that defend them/stop ships from getting close to scan
  • A ships ability to scan a planet can be modified by purchasing scanning upgrades, probes, whatever
  • Players can purchase and use "dirty bombs" to make worthless planets look like they have more uranium than they do. To try and make other players waste money
  • Dirty bombs can also be used to contaminate livable planets to fuck up production of ships/upgrades/whatever
